Synopsis
Seven noble families fight for control of the mythical land of Westeros. Political and sexual intrigue abound. The primary families are the Stark, Lannister, and Baratheon families. Robert Baratheon, King of Westeros, asks his old friend Eddard Stark to serve as his chief advisor.

Eddard, suspecting that his predecessor had been murdered, accepts so that he can investigate further. It turns out more than one family is plotting to take the throne. The Queen's family, the Lannisters, may be hatching a plot to take control. Across the sea, the last surviving members of the previously deposed ruling family, the Targaryens, are also plotting a return to power.

The conflict between these families and others, including the Greyjoys, the Tullys, the Arryns, and the Tyrells, leads to war. Meanwhile, in the north, an ancient evil awakens. Amidst war and the political confusion, a brotherhood of misfits, The Night's Watch, is all that stands between the realms of men and the horrors beyond.

Lena Headey Quotes
• "There's a lot of sexual intrigue going on. And we don't shy away from that."

On her character
"She's really complex, she's got a spiral down into a bit of madness."

"There's a general consensus, it seems, that my charater's a bit of a cow. It's fun for me to play a baddie. She's got a spiral down into a bit of madness."

"She is quite tricky, layered and power mad, smart and political. She has a hard time trusting anyone. There is a definite sense with Cersei that if it will further her game of power she'll get rid of anyone, it doesn't matter."

"I don't know if it's cool to have your mates call and say, 'I want to push her out the window,'? They hate her, but hopefully people will dislike her but realize there's something going on."

"She seems very hateful, very black and white. But I don't believe she is. It would appear so on the surface, but I believe there's a history of abuse in her family, so she's got a real history. She's full of fear and distrust out of necessity. She trusts her twin brother because they've got a long history and relationship - a very odd and disturbing relationship."

"It's fun to play a character who isn't trying to be morally good, but people come up to me and say 'I hate you.' It's kind of horrible, I thought I could handle it. I love her, I think she's misunderstood."

"I've been criticized for giving her some humanity, but I think everyone deserves a chance. I just think she's a confused woman who thought life was going to be something very different, and she just tries to cope with what is, and hold on. The wigs? Part of the game."

If Cersei is evil or not
"This is the cool thing, every single character in the show continuously evolves and changes into the unexpected, which I love. Literally, every character. You think you've got someone figured out, and then five episodes later you realize who they are and then they change again. And everyone is plagued by their family history. It's not all backstabbing and usurping for the queen. Well, it is, mostly. But there are a few admirable qualities about her. I like that she lives for her children. Ger children are totally her sanity. And she pours a lot into them, though not all good, probably. Though she believes it's good for the sake of the bloodline and power. I admire that in a world full of men, she's left to grow up and left alone and she's trying to make it by herself. Obviously (her son) Joffrey is a sort of prodigy. He's very impressionable and a twisted child. I don't think she fully realizes yet what she's creating, but it's out of love. She doesn't know any better; it's a sort of cycle."

"The best part of playing strong women is actually the weaker sides of them. It's the broken pieces you don't really see. It's something you see in Cersei possibly at the end of next season."

On watching the show herself
"I've got my own favorite characters, I really love the boys at the wall, Jon Snow and the new guy, Samwell."

On being asked what the sources of inspirations for the character
"I'm now a mother so I understand the immeasurable power of that .... And to be a woman in a mans world ... Strangely ... I also understand that!!!"

If she had any opinions about Cersei before she was offered the role
"I was excited by her from the start. Even before I saw pages. She will have such a journey and hopefully a huge fall from power."

• "It's intriguing because she's crazy, under the whole stoic thing, she's a little nuts."

• "There's a big arc with Cersei and Tyrion, which is a crazy relationship. They bring out each others' crazy. I can tell you that season two is even more crazy, more exciting. We've all been liberated because people really love the show, so we've really gone for it."

• "I can tell you that season two is even more exciting. We've all been liberated because people really love the show, so we’ve really gone for it. There's a big arc with Cersei and Tyrion. They bring out each other's crazy. It’s intriguing because she's crazy. Under the whole stoic thing, she's a little nuts."

• "She doesn’t have any grip on Joffrey. He’s power-crazed."

• "There is a slightly incestuous relationship, which is very wrong, but it’s the way she was brought up. She’s a little crazy under the... surface. Second season, I’m getting to explore that a bit more, which is good, because I like the crazy."

• "Twincest, which is a... lovely term."

• "…and I think at one point she was not unlike Sansa."

• "I'm a secret Stark."

• "She sleeps with fear in her soul. She is full of terror and paranoia and insecurity. She hides it with stillness. She does not move much and that’s been a real challenge for me. I fidget. She's like a cobra, she's a snake just waiting and waiting... the hard thing is it’s freezing where we film in Belfast in a shipyard for five months a year and I'm there in a silk dress trying to be totally still."

On working with Peter Dinklage
"Because I know him and we've got a real comfortable relationship and he’s so good that you raise everything,” she said of the joys of working with Dinklage. “You raise your game to join in and I love that, that’s a challenge.”

• "This season there’s a big arc with Cersei and Tyrion’s relationship, which is really interesting, because it’s love/hate there, totally. It’s been really fun filming all those scenes, and there’s just a lot more drama this year."

• "She’s dying to ask for help, and she never will."

• "It’s kinda fun to be able to play a character who isn't trying to be morally good... I'm not playing to please anybody. But she love her children."

• "The best part of playing strong women is actually the weaker sides of them, it’s the broken pieces you don’t really see."
Co-Stars and Directors Quotes
George R. R. Martin (the books author) "Lena should be amazing as the queen you love to hate. I'm thrilled to have her aboard."

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau "It was a really good experience. She's really cute and smart - and she's also a lot of fun. She was also pregnant during filming, but not so far along that you could see it clearly. But she had to have a stand-in in a nude scene with me."

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau “Lena is a great actress. and very funny so it’s a treat to work with her!”

Mark Addy "Lena and I got on like a house on fire, we absolutely adore each other."

Eugene Simon "Lena was the first person who I met, and actually the first time I believe that I met her was to do my nude scene with her... And so it was very kind of, 'Hi, I’m Eugene. I can see you're wearing the same dressing gown I am."
